The U.S.S. Co.’s Rotorua, Captain Tozer, arrived in Gisborne harbour at 2 p.m. yesterday from Southern Ports, and left again at 6 p.m. for Auckland.

The Saucy Kate left Auckland to-day with a cargo of coals consigned to Mr W. H. Luke of Gisborne. The arrival of the Tarawera at Port Chalmers will enable the U. S. S. Company to caery out a project they have hitherto been unable to execute for want of plant—viz., a-i excursion to the West Coast Sounds on a l irge and popular scale. This fine new steamer will be laid on tor a nine or ten days trip to Milford and other of these wonderful Sounds at reduced rates, offering to the general public of all parts of the Colony an opportunity of visiting the Coast which they have not hitherto enjoyed. As soon as the Tawera is available for the ordinary time table running the Company will be in a position to supplement the present fortnightly ■ irvicc to Sydney via Auckland should the t ade in that direction offer sufficient encour*gement to warrant the experiment being tried. The Waihora, sister ship to the Tarawera, is expected to reach the Colony about the end of March next, and will be followed by the Takapuna in August or September. The latter is an express boat, 220 feet in length, 32 feet in breadth, and of great pjwer, specially designed to run a fast passenger service between Lyttelton and Manukau, and her construction has been entrusted to the hands of a well-known Shipbuilding Company.
