Don’t forget the Mayoralty. Make up your electoral minds ratepayers of Gisborne, and go boldly to the poll and “ pop it down ” for Mr. Henry Lewis. Despite the society which Capt. Tucker wishes to form, and which, so far as he himself is concerned, he has formed already, we venture to predict a victory for Mr. Lewis. We are anxious to see that gentleman returned by a majority such as will convince the people of Gisborne that “ Societies” are of comparatively small account in matters of this description. Nothing could possibly have tended to damage Mr E. K. Brown’s election than the lettersappeaing in the “ Herald ” under the signatures of w. H. Tucker and James Browne. That gentleman has good reason to exclaim “save me from my friends. ” The poll day will show beyond a doubt, what need the Gisborne public has of “Societies”—cliques would be a more appropriate word. There are one or two cliques we mean to shut up, and if Captain Tucker starts one with such an object, we’ll shit that up too.
