Arrived, this morning, the Union Co.’s steamship Wakatipu, from Wellington. The inquest upon the bodies of the men who were drowned by the sinking of the Austral, was resumed to-day. Captain Murdoch was examined at length, but he was unable to account in any way for the foundering of the vessel. The divers have continued their examination of the ship, but thej- have not recovered any more bodies, and the fate of the Lascar f -eman, who it is believed was drowned, is . unknown. The Marine Board’s eiv/ . y into the circumstances under which the immigrant ship Northampton struck on the reef at Port Hacking, on the 21st ult., was concluded to-day. The Court found that the captain was to blame for the casualty, but have postponed dealing with his certificate until Monday next.
