It is refreshing to see an assertion such as that made by the “Lyttelton Times,” which states “ that the interests of Canterbury and Otago are mainly identical. On them falls the burden of Colonial taxation; it is they who form the real security in the London market.” Now the Customs returns for the September quarter show that Otago and Canterbury contributed £205,794, and the North Island £212,634, and yet, forsooth, they are the only plaees guaranteeing the loans.
