ALEXANDRIA, Nov. 3. M. Bredif, French Controller-General of Egyptian finance, who was recently notified by Cherif Pasha through the French Consul that he would not in future be admitted to the sittings of the Council of Ministers, has demanded to know upon what grounds the Egyptian Government refuses to permit him to resume his seat. Nov. 4. Further news has been received from Soudan, but of an untrustworthy nature. It is considered doubtful whether the report that the Arabs under the False Prophet had been defeated is worthy of credence, and General Alison has despatched three British officers with an escort to obtain reliable information as to affairs in Soudan. LONDON, Nov. 4. In the House of Commons to-day Sir Charles Dilke, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, stated, in reply to a question, that re-assurances had been given to the Porte regarding the nature of Earl Dufferin’s mission to Cairo in connection with the settlement of Egypt, and that the Turkish Government had been informed that no steps would be taken which would affect existing relations between the Sultan and the Khedive. Consols declined |to 102 J. New Zealand securities are quoted as follows : —Five per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 105| ; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan, 105£ ex div. ; Four-and-a-Half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan 102|. Adelaide Wheat, ex warehouse, 49s ; New Bealand Wheat, ex warehouse, 43s to 46s ; Adelaide Flour, ex warehouse, 34s 6d. Total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,720,000 quarters. Australian tallow : Beat beef, 43s ; best mutton, 445. Best Scotch pig iron, No. 1, f.o.b. in Clyde, remains at 52s 6d.
