SPORTING.

Morning Gallops at Waeronga-a-hika. It was once said “ a man can’t be in two places at once, unless he’s a bird ” so that instead of visiting the Makaraka course on Saturday morning last, and finding that most of the horses engaged were going to take their exercise at the Waerenga-a-hika course, I had to journey along in that direction in order to watch the “ gee gees.” It was one of the most pleasant rides I have had for a long time. It didn’t rain a little bit, but the only way to describe how the water came down is to state that oue felt as if the new steam fire engine hose had been let loose, and that a big water supply had been suddenly obtained for Gisborne. However it cleared up a little after 4 o’clock.

Mr Geo. Bumand’s two greys were the first to appear, and went along together at a good bat. They both appeared in grand condition and excellent heart. Director is looking well and should run a good horse in the handicap although I can’t help thinking The Cat will make it warm for him. The pair did serviceable work. Tartar did a slow two miles but finishing in a manner which clearly proved his grand quality. Kingask, Mr M. H. Smith’s late purchase, and Seaboy did a slow three miles, and both horses were much admired. Trovatore did a serviceable two miles, being joined by Luck’s All at half the distance, both finishing very strong. Lizard did a fast mile, and in fact performed admirably. He gave those present a sample of what he could do in the way of kicking. The saddle slipped round, and the reptile gave several invitations to those congregated to shake hands with him but no one accepted the invitation. .

Forest Queen, Progress and a litle bay horse from the Murewai next did two miles, and all three shaped well. The only others present were Forest King Rubina, Carnival and Slim Jim, but these only did walking exercise. I failed to notice either Filthy Lucre, The Barb, Gisborne, Seagull or Gundagai o.i the course. Hotspur, V. 8.0. Spring* Mooting. (by cable.—reuter’s special). MELBOURNE, Nov., 4.
