Sorata, which left Melbourne on Sept. 20, were delivered here via Naples on the 30th ult. Nov. 2. Consols remain at 102}. The Bank rate remains 5, and the market rate 34 per cent. The total reserve of notes and bullion is £9,200,000. New Zealand securities : Five fffir Cent. 10-40 Loan, 1054 ; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan, 1044 ex div. ; Four-and-a-Half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 101}. Colonial breadstuff's are quiet at 49s for Adelaide, and 43 to 46s for New Zealand Wheat, ex warehouse ; Adelaide Flour, 345. Australian Tallow remains at 43s 6d for best beef, and 46s best mutton. Intelligence is to hand that the steamship Gulu Finland, 1486 tons, bonnd for Melbourne, which went ashore in the Red sea an the 21st alt., still lies stranded, and it is feared that nothing can prevent her becoming a total wreck. The French Government objects to the proposal that there should alone be an English Controller General in Egypt. It is hoped that the difficulty which has arisen will be smoothed by Earl Dufferin, on his arrival in Egypt. In the House of Commons to-day Sir Chas. Diike, Under-secretary for Foreign Affairs, announced that information has been received from Ehartoum, dated Monday 30th Oct., stating that the false prophet has been defeated in Soudan with heavy loss. There is an epidemic of small pox amongst his fo • lowers. The Premier made a statement in the House to-day, in the course of which he announced that the Egyptian Government will share with England the expense of the occupation of Egypt by the British Troops since tl»e defeat of Arabi at Tel-El-Kebir. The Premier further stated that the Government would not require to ask for any further war credit during the present session. November 3.
In the House of Commons last night an amendment, proposed by Mr Gibson, requiring that the cloture should only be adopted by two-thirds majority of the House, was finally rejected by 362 to 238 The Irish members supported the Government on the division. CONSTANTINOPLE, Nov. 2. It haa transpired that the Porte has urged Lord Dufferin to delay his intended departure for Egypt. Later.
