P ROSPECTUS OF THE— Champion Copper Lode Company, KT e 1 s o n - TO BE REGISTERED WITH LIMITED LIABILITY UNDER THE “ JOINT STOCK COMPANY’S ACT.” CAPITAL, £30,000 in 30,000 SHEARS of £1 Each, with power to increase if necessary, which is not probable, as the facilities for working the Mine are remarkable ; the Copper Lode running up the fare of the Mountain to a considerable altitude, consequently pumping gear will be unnecessary for a long time. 2s per Share to bo paid on Application, Is per Share on Allotment, and 2s per Share three months after date of allotment. (2| per cent will be allowed to any person making full payments of the 5s per share on application.) Calls not to exceed 6d per Share as intervals of not less than one month, at required. This Company is formed for the purpose of working the copper deposits within the lease to be transferred to the Company, and more especially the copper lode known as the Champion Copper Lode, discovered in the mineral belt near the head of Aniseed Valley adjacent to the junction of the limestone and magnesian rocks, and running parallel with an Elvan dyke. This discovery has proved the opinion expressed by the late E. H. Davis, the eminent Government Geologist, to be correct, which will be seen by the following extract from his report on the geology of t‘ e \niseed Valiev District, Nelson, published in the year 1871 : —“ I am fully convinced t’ at there is a deposit of copper ore soinew' ere in the district, but the serpentine so completely obliterates all indications of its local ty that, it is diffiiult to come to any conclusion.”

The bearing of the Champion lode is about north-east, with an apparent dip to the east ward. The ore consists of red oxide, grey •»re, nd carbonates, very rich in quality, Hssavs showing 30 to 80 per cent, of metal • veins of na'ivc -opper have also been found plentifully running thr ugh the ore. The outcrops of ore are found on the face ■if the mountain, the lowest outcrop being about 55 et from the creek, and at an elevation of about 40 feet. A cutting has been tnadoby the present proprietors a little above t c creek to the first outcrop, with the result hat the ore i* tinder foot, and a face 25 feet it height is now showing ore The second •utcrop, about 40 feet from the first, continues for about 30 feet. The third outcrois about 65 feet from the second, and the f •'•rt' ontcriip about. 50 feet from the third ; there are various other indications of copperp showing the cupper bearing nature of the rock. The great extent of these outcrops . the rich quality of the ore ; the facilities of ford, and consequent, cheapness in working the mine, render the undertaking one of exceptional value. A very considerable quantity of ore can at. once be obtained anil brought into the market as soon as the road can be completed to the mine. The road at. present used is about 15 miles from the Hope Railway Station to the copper outcrops, the first six miles being a drav road, then a horse track for about six miles, and the last three miles a foot track. The present proprietors have expended consieradble time and money on the tracks. The proprietors to receive 6,500 shares, and £l,OOO in cash, of which £5OO is to be paid on the registration of the Company, and £5OO from the produce of the mine ; 25 per cent, of sums realised to be devoted to this purpose until the £5OO is paid. The 800 acres of land to be transferred to the Company are held by lease from the Crown for 21 years from the Ist January, 1882, with right of renewal ; a'so ti e right to the timber on half the surface, which is abundant in quantity and suitable for all mining purposes There is also a good supply of water on the ground for dressing the ore and for working machinery. Applications for shares to be made through the Company’s Bankers in Nelson, or through any branch of the Union Bankin the colony. It is anticipated that the Share list will be completed am! closed in a very short time, when Directors will be chosen and operations commence with vigord. Applications for Shares must be made early of Mr 11. E. Johnston, at the Wharf, who has been appointed Agent. At a Meeting of the Provisional Directors held on Thursday, sth October, the following Resolutions were passed 1. To add to the Prospectus that all the Proprietors have pledged themselves not to sell their proprietory shares until the whole of the Company’s shares are sold, or until the expiration of 18 morit’s from the dale of the registration of the Company. 2. That the Company shall not be considered formed until 12,000 shares have been sold exclusive of the proprietory shares (6,500). 3. That, no works be entered into, the estimated cost of which shall exceed £2,000, without the consent of an extraordinary general meeting called for th • express purpose of sanctioning such expenditure. 4.
