Messrs. Graham, Pitt, and Bennett will offer for sale at their Auction Mart to-mor-row, at 2 p.m., the gates and privileges of the Makaraka and Waerenga-a-hika Race Meetings, appointed to take place on the 9th and 10th of November respectively. With respect to the rapiditv with which rail ways are constructed in the United States,we learn from a American trade journal that there were consti ucted in the States last year no less than 9358 miles of new railway. This made a total railway mileage open for traffic in the United States up to the end of lost year of 104,814 miles. The mileage eonstruced during rhe present year up to date will bring the total up to about 110,000 miles. An inquest was recently held by the coroner for Southwark upon abont half a ton of human remains, consistingjchiefly of broken skulls which were found by some men engaged in laying down gas pipes. Evidence whs called to show that the bones had been buried at least 200 years, and the spot in which they were found must have been a burial ground. An order was made for, thier interment ?
