Mb. Hilton, the Mine Manager of the Southern Cross Petroleum Company, has forwarded to Mr W. Clarke, the Managing Director, an interim report which is most encouraging. Mr. Hilton mentions that Mr. William Graham, of the firm of Messrs. Graham, Pitt A Bennett, Mr. I). Crawford, brother of Mr. W. F. Crawford, the well-known brewer. Mr. R. Cooper, and Captain Kerr, of the Stan dard, had visited Rotokautuku, and found that there was no exaggeration in the reports which have recently been forwarded. On the return of our representative a full and reliable account of the works now being carried on at these Springs, and one which can be thoroughly relied upon, will be presented to our readers. We have purposely given the names of the visitors so than the doubts which may have existed as to the “ bona fides ” of the previous reports may be dispelled. The gentlemen who have made themselves conversant with the working of the Springs will no doubt be willing to give information as to the prospects of the Company outside of any bias which might be supposed to exist in the minds of persons directly interested. Why the rumors which have been so industriously spread to damage the interests of the Company have been occasioned we know not, but from assurances made to us by thoroughly reliable persons we have every confidence that the shareholders will not regret in the future that they have secured scrip in the Southern Cross Petroleum Company.
