In the Victorian Parliament the other day, Mr Munro, annoyed by a remark from Mr Wilson, said, “ Everyone knows that yon are a fool. ” —“ Everyone knows you are a rogue,” was the retort. This language brought Dr Quick, the chairman, and the Premier on their feet with complaints and protests. Mr Wilson urged t 1 at the offensive language was “ mutual,” and Mr Munro assured the House that it was a “ Scotch joke. ” On this latter plea the offenders were let off with a caution from the chair. • Fied Maccabe, the ventriloquist, was a great joker. Some years ago he was on the Mississippi, On’board one of the "steamboat and making an acquaintance with the engineer he was allowed the freedom of the engineroom. He sat down in a comer ,and, drawing his bat over his eyes, seemed lost in re ▼erie. In a few minutes a certian part of t ! e machinery began to squeak. The engineer oiled it and went, about his business. In another few minutes the squeaking was again b#»ard, and th? engineer rushed over, oil-can in hand, to give the offending spindle another lubricating. Again he rushed to his post, and again t e spindle began squeaking louder than ever, “Jupiter,” he yelled, “the darned thing’s be witched.” More oil was. administered, but the engineer began to smell a rat.
