This Company is formed for the purpose of working the copper deposits within the lense to be transferred to the Company, and rauw especially the copper lode known as the Champion Copper Lode, discovered in the mineral belt near the head of Aniseed Valley adjacent to the junction of the limestone and magnesian rocks, and running parallel with an Elvan dyke. This discovery has proved the opinion expressed by the late E. 11. Davis, the eminent Government Geologist, to be correct, which will be seen by the following extract, from his report on the geology of the Aniseed Valley District, Nelson, published in the year 1871 :—“ lam fully convinced that there is a deposit of copper ore somewhere in the district, but the serpentine so completely obliterates all indications of its locality that it is diffiiult to come to any conclusion.’’ The bearing of the Champion lode is about north-east, with an apparent dip to t’ e eastward. The ore consists of red oxide, grey ore, md carbonates, very rich in quality, assays showing 30 to 80 per cent, of metal: veins of native jopper have also been found plentifully running through the ore. The outcrops of orc are found on the face of the mountain, the lowest, outcrop being about 55 feet from the creek, and at an elevation of about 40 feet. A cutting has been madoby the present proprietors a liltle above the creek to the first outcrop, with the result, that the orc is under foot, and a face 25 feet in height is now showing orc. The second outcrop, about 40 feet from the first, con-; tinues for about 30 feet. The third outcrop ■ is about 65 feet from the second, and the • fourth outcrop about 50 feet from the third ; there are various other indications of copper, ■ showing the copper-bearing nature of the i rock. The great extent of these outcrops ; i the rich quality of the ore ; the facilities offord, and consequent cheapness in working the mine, render the undertaking one of exceptional value. A very considerable quantity of uro can at once bo obtained and brought into the luurke! ?t« «nnn as the road can be completed tn tin’
