THE CHAMPION COPPER LODE COMPANY.

The following report from Mr William Clarke of Gisoome with reference to the Champion Copper Lode recently discovered has been received this afternoon by Mr H. E. Johnston, the Gisborne agent for the Company:— “Gisborne, 11th Oct., 188’2. “ H. E. Johnstone, Esq., “ Read’s Quay. “ Dear Sir, —As you desire to know my opinion of the Champion Lode, near Nelson, I have much pleasure in informing you that I have visited the property described, near the head of Aniseed Valley, and assure you that I have never seen a better surface show than on the Champion Lode within the Company’s boundaries. “ The ores, of which I have samples, are Native copper, (huge lumps of this are found. I obtained one of about a hundred-weight) red and black oxides, mixed ores, carbouates, silicates, and grey ore. Of course there are a number of outcrops showing the persistence of the mineral bearing country along a considerable line in the property. “ The distance from Nelson being about seven miles could be easily accomplished by the formation of a track, and ore could be immediately brought to the Port by pac horses, until more permanent means of transit were constructed.

“The water supply is said (and I think truly), to be unfailing. This is u very important point, as the economical dressing of ores is the greatest desideratum when carriage has to be considered. “In my estimation, the property is one that developes enormous wealth. No work has been done except on the surface, and if the lode should prove faithful to its indications the proprietors will be millionaires. “ Very truly yours’, “ \V\u. Clarke.” The above report speaks for itself, and there will no doubt be a large number of shares taken up. We wish the Company every sm cess in their undertaking. Specimens of the ore from the mine are now on view at the Union Bank, and at Mr Johnston’s Office, Read’s Quay.
