Christchurch.—Since our lest issue we have held a 1 special auction sale «>f wools, consisting chiefly of fell- ' mongers* scoured parcels. Buyers displayed great ; reticence in their bidding-., resulting in the withdrawal of many lots; thc<- were, however, mostly cleared . privately afterwards. Out of 247 bales offered, 231 found buyers at the foliowi g rates:—Grease : Merino, 6- to 7d; half-bred, Gid ; lambs, TAd. Scoured : Merino, Is 2’d to Is do pieces, lid to Is O.Jd; cross-bred, llAdto Is 4ld ; do. locks and pieces. 6.) to Is. The ■ first of the new clip arrived in store to-day. Wellington.—The new clip will shortly be coming in, I and we anticijiate that a considerable quantity will be j offered for local sale, Gisborne.—Shearing began on Ist Inst., with a good j prospect of a heavy clip. Auckland—A few small lots have been sold at public I sale, realising 7d five-sixteenths per lb. GRASS SEEDS.
Christchurch—The early advent of north winds, accompanied by dry and otherwise unfavorable weather , for sowing operations, produced a sudden check in the demand; growers amt merchants are consequently burdened with unusually heavy supplies of ryegrass need to carry forward. The cxi>ort demand for cocks- | foot has been goid up to u very recent date, u- d the j quantity to bv held over is iuMgmflcant. Dur quota- ■ (tons of’4s 3d to 5s for ryegrass Is merely nominal, but ; cocksfoot cannot be obtained at k->s than 5} per lb. Dunedin—Ryegrass : This market Is fully supplied, ■ but owing to a slack demand, iiitie or no l»u«ines< has i passed. The few sales transpiring show rates at 5> 3d to Gs Gd, according to sample. Invercargill. -Sowing h now being carried on with . vigor, un<l a large business has been done. Ryegrass : Large sales have been made by us at from 5s to 5s Cd per bushel for farmers’ jareds.
