The first three heats for the rowing trophies offered by Mr Frank Punch were rowed today on the Paramatta River, and were won by Laycock, Trickett, and Rush respectively. The contest will be continued on the sth and 7th inst. This Day. In the Legislative Council last night a resolution in favor of the removal of the duty on tea, and the substitution of a tax on wheat and flour, was negatived. Received Out. 4, 1.10 p.m. MELBOURNE, This l ay. A destructive fire occurred last night at Richmond in the premises occupied by Walton and Co., builders. The damage is estimated at £3,000, which is covered by insurance. The Government has declined to grant Dr Barker an enquiry into the charges made against him in connection with the lute Mrs Stent, as it is considered to be unnecessary. Dr Barker will not therefore resign his position on the Victorian medical board, as was required by the Government.
