Poverty Bay Standard. Published Every Evening. GISBORNE: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1882.

We consrratnlate the New Zealand Native Lands Settlement Company on their vigorous action in postponing the sale of the Pouawa and Waimata Blocks. Nothing that the Directors could possibly have done, could have tended more to satisfy the public of bona ftdes of the Company in offering these blocks for sale. Always difficult, sometimes impossible to complete the title in this district, the Company have had to deal with unanticipated and far off difficulties of this nature. By dint of what the Colonial youth would designate as “ hard graft” they have managed to do what many people have been unable to do, viz. : to complete their title within a name or two. These names will be obtained and as the Manager of the Bank of New Zealand assures us to-day, the Company will give solid, fair and equitable title before they offer their lands for sale. We only deprecate the unfortunate fact that the proposals of the Company puts the matter in a light which does not do justice to themselves. Poverty Bay has a font of land which it would be difficult to exhaust even by the most prodigal means. The New Zealand Native Land Settlement Company, with a good directory, properly worked, and dropping nil philanthropy in their pmandatinn Mr st prove a success. We wait to see what ths Company can shew us, as they really ar? fit and able to shew us, in the way of financing.
