SPORTING.

(BT CABLE. —BEUTEB’S SPECIAL). SYDNEY, Sept. 27. Captain Osborne's b. c. Wheatear, 3 yrs., by Epigram—Wheatsheaf, who was recently injured on the Kandwick racecourse has been destroyed in Sydney. MELBOURNE BETTING MARKET. (Australasian, 9th September.) The result of the principal events at Rand wick has given a line of the Derby candidates, and in Nar igator and Hecla the New South W’ales men undoubtedly possess something above the average. The former, as winner of the A.J.C. Derby, has as a natural consequence, supplanted Segenhoe, who has receded to 109 to 15, while 100 to 30 has been accepted about Navigator. Hecla has friends at 100 to 12, and Bassanio at 100 to 10, but none of the others seem to be in any demand, albeit outside price would be accepted about King of the Vale. The Metropolitan has not thrown much light upon the Melbourne Cup, for not one of the first four is engaged therein, and Cunnamulla remains firm at the head of the list at 100 to 8, Sting coming next at 100 to 7. Sweet William receives consistent support at 100 to 4, and so does Hereford Bay. Gudarz, too, remains at the same price, and Navigator, Hecla, King of the Vale, Prometheus, and Saionara have all been backed at 100 to 3 each.

Segenhoe is reported lame, and there is talk of tbs colt not putting in an appearance for the V.R.C. Derby.
