CABLEGRAMS.
BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—(COPYRIGHT.) [beutek’s telegrams]. Received Sept. 24, 11 a.m. ALEXANDRIA, Sept. 22. The expedition, under Sir Evelyn Wood, comprising three British regiments, has started for Damietta to co-operate with the fleet in an attack on that place. No confirmation has yet been received of the report that the rebel garrison had yielded. All officers of the Egyptian army, below the rank of colonel, who were under arrest here for takingjpart in the rebellion have been released. September 23. Damietta was yesterday occupied by the British troops, under Sir Evelyn Wood. The bulk of the rebel garrison had previously deserted, and had made their way to Tantah, where they submitted to the British. The remainder fled before the arrival of the British troop but only j after they had looted and plundered the town in every direction. The commander of the garrison, Abdellad, yielded to Major-General \Vuod on the entry of the British. A grand parade of the British cavalry took place to-day at Cairo. Since this display the attitude of the populace (previously most insolent toward# the troops) has become most abject, the parade having had an overawing effect on the people. CONSTANTINOPLE, Sept. 22. At the instance of the Russian Government a conference of European envoys is to be held here for the settlement of the difficulty which has arisen between the Turks and the Greeks at Arta regarding the frontier line. ‘ LONDON, Sept. 22. LONDON, Sept. 23. Abdellad has surrendered to Sir Evelyn Wood. A large number of rebels who deserted from the enemy have plundered Damietta. The Grand Cherif of Mecca has been deposed and imprisoned. Russia is concentrating her military forces in Armenia, apparently with a view of influencing the settlement of the Egyptian ditfi ctylty.
