(by cable.—reuter’s special), Received Sept. 22, 0.45 a.m. LONDON, September 20. At to-day's wool unction 10,400 bales were offered. The prices were again steady, but the demand wm not active. (From the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Circular), GRASS SEEDS. Christchurch.—A heavy business has been carried through during the month, the weather having been most favorable for sowing. Our former quotation, of 5s to 5s 6d for machine dressed rye grans, nos not been maintained owing to excessive supplies brought forward ; 4s 9d to 5s 2d are current quotations for well cleaned seed, whilst fur farmer's parcels 4s 3d to 4s 6d are full values. Cocksfoot has been taken largely for export at sjd to s|d f.o.b. We have about 10 tons of pnme quality remaining in store from which we are supplying orders at these rates. Dunedin.—Ryegrass : Supplies in store and in farmers’ hands are heavy. Choice samples of well-dressed clean seeds might find buyers at up to our last quotations, but the demand is very languid and soles difficult to effect thereat.—Cocksfoot: Has been in good engutry, £ood samples being eagerly picked up at s£d to Oamaru.—Locally grown rye grass is commanding highly satisfactory figures owing to the large demand prevailing. Some lines of Poverty Bay seed imported here are not giving such satisfaction as the quality of the seed deserves, on account of much indifferent dressing. Wo have made some large sales during the month. Akaroa cocksfoot has been in fair demand. Timaru.—Ryegrass: Market quiet. Farmers’ parcels are worth 4s 4d to 4s Bd, and best machine aressed 5s fid f.o.b. Giseorne.—Ryegrass: The wet season has prevented any spring sowing. Some 75,000 bushels have been exported during the period at 5s 5s 3d f.o.b. Napier.—Ryegrass : Market remains quiet. For inferior 4s 3d per bushel is asked ; medium fetches ss, and clean Poverty Bay, 5s fid. Auckland.—Market heavily stocked, with small demand. Ryegrass, 4s 9d to 5s ; cocksfoot, 7s 6d to 7s Od per bushel.
