GISBORNE HOSPITAL.

The Gisborne Hospital Committee met in the Court House last evening. The following members were present; "V en. Archdeacon Williams in the Chair, Rev. J, McAra, and Messrs Chrisp, Brown, Butt, McKay, and Dr. Pollen.

The wardsman’s report for the month was received. It appeared from the report that eight patients had been received into the Hospital. Eight discharged cured, and one had died. The number in the Hospital up to date was five. The amount received from patients for the month was something over £l3.

The Treasurer reported the available balance to be £5l, and accounts were passed which absorbed that amount including a donation of £4O to Dr. Pollen for professional services rendered by him to the Hospital during the previous year. The members of the Committee expressed their regret that the amount at their disposal was so small, and all bore testimony to the careful and assiduous way in which Dr. Pollen attended to the claims of the Hospital. It was movad by Mr Brown, and seconded by Mr Butt, and unanimously agreed to, “That a salary of £lOO per annum to the medical officer, be a charge upon the funds of the Hospital for the current year." This, it was admitted, was th 3 smallest salary paid to any medical officer in connection with any Hospital in the Colony. A sub-committee was authorised to call for tenders for supplying the Hospital with rations, &c., for the current year, The Treasurer reported that he had something over £lOO available for paying the balance on the contract for the Fever Ward. Something like £4O would still be required to pay the contractor in full. The matter was left in the Treasurer’s hands to make the best arrangements he could. The affairs of the Hospital seemed to he conducted in an efficient manner ; and it was stated that the Gisborne Hospital shewed very favorably in a return produced by the Government having reference to all the Hospitals throughout the Colony. This institution certainly deserves the support of the community both in town and country.
