Poverty Bay Standard. Published Every Evening. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1882.

The labors of the ParUamentary Session are rapidly drawing to a close, and we may expect that “Hansard.”- having reached its 28th numbre, will close at about number 32. Its contents from beginning to end are by no means startling, but there has nevertheless been a large amount of debate upon various matters, notably the loan questions. The member for Poverty Bay, Mr Allan McDonald, M.H.R., will probably return to Gisborne within the course of a few days, and we think may fairly be congratulated Ujjon the result of his efforts in our behalf. No other session of Parliament has presented the extraordinary position of the present one. A Government by no means unanimous in their views, and an Opposition without a leader and thoroughly divided among themselves are anomalies not every day to be met with in Parliament. What sane person could expect to obtain much pecuniary concession under such extraordinary circumstances? As it is, we have obtained greater concessions than we could possibly have hoped for, although we know we are thoroughly entitled to more, and every shilling we have got, every concession that has been made to us. during this session, is owing to tbe exertions made by our Parliamentary representative in our behalf; and we think he is thoroughly entitled to the warmest thanks of the community and the highest Eolitical praise for having fought our foriorn ope in so indomitable a spirit, against circumstances so dispiriting, aisadvantageous, and discouraging. Many a man would have thrown up the sponge ; he has shown a spirit of determination which, in the minds of all thinking men, must be deserving of the highest recognition at the hands of his constituents.
