J BATTERY VOLUNTEERS.
The usual monthly inspection of the local corps took place last night in the Drill Shed. We were sorry to notice such a poor muster. As a rule the monthly drills are much better attended; and we trust the members in future will muster in force at these inspections. The officers shew that they have not lost their interest in the corps, as they invariably attend, and often at great inconvenience to themselves, and it must be very disheartening to them to have such a poor muster as we witnessed last night. The men fell in at 7 p.m., and were drilled by Capt. Winter, and at 7.30 Captain Porter, the Officer Commanding the District, inspected the men, and seemed to be satisfiea with their appearance. The two previous monthly inspections he had been unable to attend owing to being suddenly called away on business. The band played several new pieces, in a creditable manner, and the parade was then dismissed.
