WESLEYAN CHURCH.

The anniversary soiree of the Wesleyan Church members held last evening was a most enjoyable one. Preparations for the reception of visitors had been evidently carefully seen to, and the ladies (we hope we have omitted no names) who made themselves most prominent were Mesdames Kurtain, Warren, Robb, Reynolds, Stevenson, Judd, Veal, and Madder. The young ladies who assisted were the Misses Wilson, Oatridge, Mogridge, Jelly, Kurtain, and Harris. It is hardly fair to mention the fact, but as truthful journalists (please, dear readers, don’t read it) we may state that the Misses Hayes, Reynolds, and Green attended to the wants of the bachelors. After several cups of tea and coffee had been disposed of, also sundry condiments calculated to assist materially in promoting a severe attack of billioueness, the seats were re-arranged, and the most important business of the evening commenced. The Chairman read the balance-sheet for the past fifteen months, which was highly satisfactory, as it clearly showed that all the money utilised for extra improvements, although used, had borne a fruit and had now been returned. A most interesting programme, containing songs, duets, choruses, and addresses by the local clergyman, and also by the Rev. J. J. Lewis, of Napier. This latter gentleman fairly enraptured his hearers, and was listened to with breathless attention.
