Christchurch, August 25. The first Steeplechase Aleeting ever held at Amberly (about forty miles north of Christchurch) was held yesterday, under the most favorable circu .k j? ces, both as regards weather and arrangements. There were five events on the programme, all of which were well contested. The principal event was the North Canterbury Steeplechase Handicap of 60 so vs., 3 miles, which was won, after an exciting struggle, by Kosciusko, with Levant second. There were about 350 persons present, and £449 was passed through tlie Totalisator.

Melbourne, August 25. The race for the Hawkesbury Guineas resulted as follow’s :— Hecla ... ... ... 1 Jessie ... ... ... 2 Vaucluse ... ... 3 —Hecla won easily.
