Age Special. LONDON. August 22, 4.50 p.m. The Cherif Pasha, resumes his former position and the Khedive, controls the Council and army. The French opinion is that England’s action in Egypt is justifiable and was so ex pressed at the Conference. The Chinese Government have passed a resolution expressing regret at the action of Queensland in respect to Chinese immigration. August 23, 9.42 a.m. The British have cut the telegraph lines in various directions, and the Sultan is said to be infuriated at this. A train full of cavalry are reported to have reinforced Kafradowar. The Canal is used freely, but is protected by torpedoes, and patrolling is kept up. The enemy have been routed at Serapim, losing 190 men. The British lost six men. It is reported that Tripolis intends to reinforce and assist Arabi. “ Argus” Special. LONDON. August 22, 5.55 p.m. Sales opened to-day and the balance of medium wools held over from last sales were catalogued. The was a full attendance of Home and Foreign buyers, and the wools realised an average of last sales. The quantity available was 360,000 bales. August 22, 7.37 p.m. Ten men have been fully identified as the perpetrators of the recent murderous outrage in Connemara.
The European Press generally acquiesces in England's occupation of the Canal. The rumored evacuation of Kafradowar by Arabi is denied. August 23, 5.55 a.m. Serapum, a town on the Canal near the Bitter lake has been occupied by the English forces, and four guns have been captured. Numbers of Arabi’s officers are deserting him. Mahomed, formerly Minister of Works has been arrested at Ismalia. A friendly interview has taken place between Sii* G. Wolseley and Baron De Lessens. Obituary: Guildford Onslow. [Reuter’s Special.] LONDON. Aug 23. Ten Land Leaguers have been arrested by the police charged with the murder of a family at Mullaghadruma on the 18th inst. The information on which arrests have been made was furnished by an eye witness of the outrage. ALEXANDRIA. August 23. Abandonment of Kafradowar Incorrect. The rumor was current here yesterday that the enemy were abandoning Kafradowar has been ascertained to be incorrect. Authentic information has been received that the rebels are still entrenched there in great force.
