The residence of Jacob Joseph was burj glariously entered early on Friday morning. ' The noise made awakened Mr Josephs son, who fired a revolver at the burglar, but the shot missed its mark and entered the top of the sofa. The man escaped. There is no clue to the perpetrator. A morion in favor of a metalled road was carried. TIWARU. A fire broke out at 3 o'clock yesterday morning in Coxhead's photo shop one of a block in (leorgc Street. The danger was first noticed from a sound of a loud explosion and the roof of the building and windows being blown out. The flames spread rapidly to an empty shop on one side, and to Wood and Smith's drapery, and Turnbull’s grocery shops on the other. The buildings being of wood and very old, all but Turnbull's were destroyed, and his goods were ser’ous’y damaged by fire and water. This is the fourth time this block has been on fire within the last 6 or S months, in every case under suspicious circumstances. The following arc the insurances :—Turnbull, on stock, £5OO in Standard ; Wood and Smith, on stock £BOO in the National; Coxhead, on stock, £]so in Standard. The whole of the buildings in the block belonging to Quinn Brothers, are insured for £1,500 in London, Liverpool, and Globe ; but half of them escaped destructionMrTumbuirs loss will be considerably above his insurance.
