STARVED TO DEATH.

Mb Collier held an enquiry at the Bank of Friendship, Harford-street, Mile End, London, as to the death of Mr George Saunders, aged 55 years, a dramatic writer, who was found dead ' in his room at 126, Oxford-street, on Sunday morning. Henry Greaves, a ' fireman at the London Docks, said he had lived at 126, Oxford-street, Stepney, about nine months, and the deceased had occupied a room there about five years. He paid 3s a week rent, very retired in his habits. Witness last spoke to him on Thursday, at half-past six in the evening, when he went down to his room. On Saturday afternoon a telegram came for him, and witness’s wife took it down to his room, but on knocking at the door could get no answer. She took no further notice until Sunday afternoon, when witness went down aad knocked at the door. Being unable to obtain an answer he burst it open. He then saw the deceased Ijring dead on the floor, with a part of his body under the bedstead. In his left hand he was holding a pipe, and j his pen was close to his right hand, so , there could be no doubt he was in the act of writing when he fell. There was nothing in the room but an old table and a bedstead. There was no bedclothing to be seen. He never admitted anybody to his apartment. There were no signs of any food about the place, and 7|d. in bronze I wag all the money that could be dis- ! covered. At the time of his death the deceased was writing a drama on | “ drink." Dr. Edmund King, surgeon, | of 38, High-street, Stepney, said he . was called in to see the' deceased, ■ whom he found dead. Externally the I body was fairly nourished, and there j were no m.*tka of violence. The sto- i mach was oßpty, and the intestines ! absence of food for several | days. Death was due to tne rupture j of a blood-vessel on the brain. The ' a returned a verdict in accordance ! the medical testimony.
