Legislative Council. WELLINGTON. August 16. In the Legislative Council the Private Tramway Bill and the Industrial Schools Bill were passed through Committee, Amendments were made by tho House in the Friendly Societies Bill. The Gas Companies and Consumers Liability Bill was re-committed and further amended, Mr Chamberlin moved that in tho opinion of this Council it is desirable that the Customs tariff be revised and amended in the direction of further and greater encouragement to local industries than exists at the present time. The mover spoke for an hour and a lialf on the motion, which was then disposed of by the previous question moved by Mr Olliver being carried, The Law Practitioners' Bill was read a third time. The Council rose at 6 p.m.
