A CRICKET CURIOSITY.

Another record beaten, as the Americans say. Barnes and Midwinter, two well-known professionals, playing for Marylebone Club against Leicestershire, raised the score between them from 19 for two wickets to 472 for three. At this stage Barnes was caught, and one run later Midwinter joined him at the pavilion. At the call of time on the first day Barnes was not out, 146 ; and Midwinter not out, 120. Next day they maintained their position until the Nottingham man had increased his score to 286, Midwinter’s total being 187. The “ Daily News,” speaking of the match, says -.—The pair were batting within a few minutes of five hours and a-half. They hit more than 80 runs an hour, and put on the unprecedented number of 454 runs while they were together. The longest previous English record is, unless Messrs G. F. Grace and I. D. Walker made more at Beeston in 1870, the 283 scored for the first wicket by Messrs W. G. Grace and B. B. Cooper !n 1869.
