[Reuteb’s Telegrams,] MELBOURNE. July 27. Arrived this morning the Union Company’s steamship Rotorua, from the Bluff. Sailed this morning steamship Hero for the Bluff. A destructive fire occurred to-day at Messrs Cappers vinegar works, Filzroy. The damages are estimated at £13,000. The Intercolonial Ploughing Match was concluded to-day. The first prize in all cases has been awarded by the judges to Victorian representatives. HAY. July 26. Mr Thomas Bent, Commissioner of Railways, in reply to a deputation which waited upon him to-day, stated that the Government were determined to endeavour to retain the trade of Riverina, and that with this object alterations for reductions in tariff would shortly be proposed. HOBART. This Day. The Japanese war ship Tskuba leaves Hobart for Auckland to-morrow evening.
