I.M.S. Bacchante, though having be young Princes on board and being ogaged on a pleasure trip, does not .ppear to be a happy snip for the rew. A short time since one of the atlins was maliciously cut, and in pite of protestation the whole watch ras made to suffer by having leave topped and extra duty imposed. Subequently a yard of rope was missed, nd the same punishment was awarded o the whole watch ; but the men reused to submit. The result was that sn men were tried by court-martial, nd sentenced to various terms of nprisonment, ranging from three to welve mouths. The official report nd minutes of the court-martial have list reached the Admiralty, together rith some remarks on the whole of he circumstances by Lord Clanwilam, the Vice-Admiral commanding. ,ord Clanwilliam states in bis letter hat' although there could be no exuse for disobeving the orders which ■ere given, the misconduct of the ten was due very largely to the inidioious conduct of Lord Charles Cott and Commander Hill of the laochante.’ The whole matter has een considered by the Admiralty, 'ho went carefully into each of the ises; and, as a result, they remitsd ix months’ of the imprisonment t six of the cases.
