The schooner Minnie Hare, Capt. Nicholas, rill leave for Auckland via the Coast to-day. The steam launch Nuko was busily engaged esterday in removing t’.ie cargo from the sabella. The s.s. Rosina left for the Coast on SatnrHy night last; she may be expected to return either to-day or to-morrow. The schooner Saury Kato arrived in the Bay on Sunday night last, from the Bay of Islands, with a cargo of pod Is consigned to Messrs Kennedy and Bennett. The Union Company’s Rotorua may be ; ooked for here about Sunday next, from Melbourne via Southern Ports ; she will leave for Auckland and Sydney same day. The s.s. Oreti dropped anchor in the Bay yesterday, at 12 o’clock, with 16 tons of cargo, and several passengers. She left last night fur Napier and Wellington. The Union Company’s Manapouri will arrive here to-morrow morning early, from Southern Ports. Last boat leaves the wharf at 10 a.in. She will sail for Auckland, returning to this port on Sunday next, thence she will proceed to Melbourne via the South. THE S.S. MANAPOURIThe following is the description of the new steamer which is about to visit our port: — The Manapouri is a steel screw-steamer of 1830 tons, and is 283 feet in length. Iler beam (moulded) is 36 feet, and the depth of bold is 25 feet She is built of what is known as Siemens-Martin steele, and the hull in constructed on the cellular principle, so that water ballast can be taken in. Accommodation is provided for 136 saloon and 120 second cabin passengers, and there is also portable accommodation in the ’tween decks for a number of third-class passengers. The fittings and app'iances in the passenger compartments are the newest and best of their kinds, and will include electric lamps, electric bePs, etc. The electric light will be used in the engine-room, and also in the hold, for the taking in and discharge of cargo. The engines are of 2000 horse-power indicated, and will maintain a high rate of speed. The Manapouri is to be brought out here by Captain Thos. Logan, so long and favorably known in connection with the ss. Hero. The Melbourne “Argus” thinks that with the possession of so magnifi<?ent a fleet the Company may be* induced to extend their operations, and venture as far as ■China annd the groups in the South Pacific.
