A STAGE ILLUSION BY MRS LANGTRY.
Ours is to be finally withdrawn from the Haymarket, and it will not again be played by the Bancrofts, whose rights over all Robertson’s winedies will shortly lapse. It may perhaps now do no harm to explain that the song Mrs Langtry is supposed to sing in “ Ours, and for which seme of her critics have praised her, is not really delivered by Mrs Langtry. That lady has no singing voice. But the piano ii placed close against the scenery, and Mrs Langtry, turning half-face to the audience, and really playing the accompaniment, moves her lips in agreement with the words, while another lady, well known in musical life sings behind the scenes. The illusion is complete, and it has deceived some of the most experienced critics.
