LONDON SEED TRADE. Messrs. John Shaw k Sons, of 37 Mark Lane, London, E.C., report through their agent, Mr Leonard W. Blake, of Christchurch, that the market during the month ending April 20th had been extremely brisk for every description of Farm Seeds, but at its close the demand had begun to fall off. The eeason will be celebrated as being one of the earliest known for many years. The trade during the previous three months was so active that no time was allowed for stocks to accumulate ; prices, us u natural consequence, maintained their full value right to the end, whilst the supply left over will be the smallest ever known. For instance, the supplies of English Red and Cow Grass were practically exhausted, and no offerings of fine qualities were to be seen, excepting a few fine parcels held by London merchants; but when they are cleared there will be more to come from the country. The same remarks applied to Foreign Beds ; in fact Messrs Shaw and Sons cannot remember a eeason when all fine Seeds were ao completely absorbed. White Clover was in good demand at late rates, whilst Alsyke must be noted dearer, the supply having proved considerably under what was estimated some time ago ; but Trefoil was somewhat easier. Timothy continued exceedingly scarce, with a strong export demand for the Continent, which was having the effect of making holders inclined to put up their prices. Foreign Italian was exceedingly scarce, and several shillings per balo dearer. There was a good enquiry for Rape Seed.
