Thursday; The report from the Standing Orders Committee was brought Up. In replying to questions; the Committee stated that the business of peripatetic magistrates would have to be re-arranged so as to prevent hutried and untimely visits to outlying districts. The Government have not yet fdeeived the report respecting the construction of telegraph lines from Riverton to Orepuki and Atautau to W airoa. The payment of gaol warders was regulated in accordance with a resolution of Parliament passed last session, an extra rate of paying being allowed in the cose of a few old provincial officers. The Parliathentary Library is not insured In any insurance office, as the Government have determined to become their owtt insurers. The following Bills were introduced and read a first time: —Offences against the Persons Act Amendment Bill (Weston); Westland High School Bill (Weston), Christchurch Alignment of Streets Bill (H. A. Thompson), Bill to permit City and. Borough Councils to insure buildings within their respective boundaries against fire (Hutchison), Bill to Repeal Contar gious Diseases Act, 1869 (Hutchison). Mr. Joyce moved for the Appointment of a committee to enquire into and report ou the questions aS to whether the conditions on which the Kaitangata Relief Fund was Subscribed has been fulfilled, and what is the legal position of misappropriation of funds voluntarily raised for chari 4 table purposes. After a short discussion, the House adjourned till Friday. There was no evening sitting, in order to allow members to attend the ball given by the officers of H.M.S. Nelson.
