At a meeting of the Hawkes Bay Jockey Club to-day the disqualification of Randwick’s jockey and owner were confirmed.

It was resolved that a Steeplechase be held on the Hastings Course on June 28th, the programme being as followsilaideu Huidlea, 1} mils;

Hawkes Bay Steeplechase, 100 sovs., 3 miles; Maiden Steeplechase, 50 sovs., 2 miles ; Hack Hurdles, 20sovs., once round the Course ; Coronation Handicap, 60 sovs., 2 miles. Dunedin, May 16.

An extraordinary meeting of shareholders in the Standard Fire and Marine Insurance Company was held yesterday for the purpose of confirming a resolution altering the articles of association passed at a meeting held on the 3rd of April. Auckland, May 16. At the first annual meeting of the Northern Steamship Company the report showed a net profit for the year of £8,550 ; allowed for depreciation, £1,000; insurance fund, £2,000. A dividend of 10 per cent, was declared. The Company have now nine steamers out of Auckland. A steamer is on the stocks for the Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, trade; and another, the size of the Wellington, will soon be on the Tauranga, Russell, and Auckland trade. Wellington, May 16. The cable across Cook’s Strait, which has been spliced, is now in thorough working order. A slight deviation has been made from the previous course. The cable steamer Agnes has returned to port. May 17. Parliament will be opened by commission to-morrow, the Commissioners being the Hon. Mr. Whitaker (premier), Sir W. Filzherbert, Major Richmond. Should the latter not arrive in time, another gentleman will be appointed. It is expected the Governor will deliver the speech on Friday. It has not transpired who will move and second the address in reply, or whom the Government will nominate as Chairman of Committees. In reply to a deputation, the Colonial Secretary stated that the usual grant would be made in respect to subscriptions in aid of the Home for Friendless Women. Kumara, May 17. Walter Holges, saddler, was committed for trial for rape on Henrietta Hodder, a girl under ten years of age. During the performance last evening at Burton’s circus, nearly all the stall seats, crammed with people, gave way ; no bones were broken, but several people were bruised. Oamaru, May 16. Notwithstanding the sea which rolled in the Bay on Sunday was the heaviest experienced since the Breakwater commenced, that structure sustained no injury warth mentioning. The rails upon which the crane travels were torn from the sleepers by the force of the sea, but no apparent injury was done, and the shipping lay perfectly safe alongside the wharf, and in the Bay under the lee of tho wall. Christchurch, May 16. The Governor, Lady Gordon, and suite left Christchurch shortly before I p.m. for Lyttelton, en route for Wellington. The City Guards formed a guard of honour. May 17. The attendance at the Exhibition during five weeks has been 107,170 persons. Timabu, May 16. Three bodies of the men lost on Sunday by the recent wrecks have been washed ashore; two of them have been recognised, but one is horribly disfigured, beyond recognition. The funeral of Captain Mills was the largest ever witnessed in Timaru. The procession extended nearly a quarter of a mile. Subscription lists have been opened. At a meeting of the Harbor Board Captain Bascan was appointed Harbor Master. It was decided to hold an enquiry before certain members of the Board,and several leading citizens, into the whole circumstances connected with the late casually. It was resolved that the various municipalities of the Colony be requested to open subscription lists in aid of families of the deceased. Ihe Board decided to bear all cost of damage sustained, and expenses incurred on occasion of the wrecks ; also the cost of the funeral of Captain Mills.
