GISBORNE FOOTBALL CLUB.

The annual general meeting of the Gisborne Football Club was held at the Masonic Hotel on Saturday evening last. There was a good attendance of the members, Mr J. Berry (captain of the Club) in the chair. The secretary, Mr E. H. Pavitt, read the ba-lance-sheet and statement of assets and liabilities, which shewed that after a few of last year’s subscriptions had been collected the club would be in funds, and the old liabilities paid off, the balance-sheet statement as read was adopted. The following new members were then elected :—Rev. T. Hill, Messrs Akroyd, T. Morgan, F. Morgan, T. Smith, Carden, Jamieson, Usher, Cooke, Ballantyne, C. Ward, Donnelly, and McNeill. The election of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with : President, Capt Winter; Vice-President, Mr A. C. Arthur ; Captain Mr J. Berry. Hon. Sec. and Treasurer: Mr E. 11. Pavitt. Committee : Messrs. Ratcliffe, M. H. Smith, Bourne, Book, J. White, and F. Morgan. On the motion of Mr M. 11. Smith, a cordial vote of thanks was accorded to the officers for the past year ; also, to Captain W. 11. Tucker for the use of his paddocks, which he had so kindly lent to the Club. The opening day was fixed for Saturday next, in Captain Tucker’s paddock, when a scratch match will be played. On the Saturday following,

a match, Town v. Country, is to take place. Mr M. 11. Smith, in his usual liberal spirit, presented the Club with a ball, for which a vote of thanks was passed. We hope to see the members roll up to practice, so that they may be successful in the annual contest between the Napier Club and themselves ; and as it is their turn to play at Napier first, this season, no time is to be lost in getting into condition. There is some talk of taking a team to Auckland, but before that can be accomplished the members must practice more together, and get more knowledge of the rules.
