Parihaka State Prisoners.

APPLICATION TO THE SUPREME COURT. The Hon. the Attorney-General (Mr Whitaker) made an application te His Honor Mr Justice Gillies on Saturday morning that the venue might be changed for the trial of Te Whiti and Tohu, the political prisoners imprisoned in New Plymouth gaol, on the ground that the ends of justice would be served by the prisoners being tried at a distance from the locality that was the scene of the occurrences in wliich these Natives had taken so conspicuous a part. The present proceeding was made upon the direct motion of the Government. Affidavits were read, from which it appeared that a very largo proportion of the population of New Plymouth and Taranaki had actually served us Volunteers in the operations against the Parihaka Natives. The offences upon which Te Whiti and Tohu are to be arraigned, are sedition and inciting to sedition. The At-torney-General therefore applied that the venue should be changed from New Plymouth to Christchurch. His Honor made the order in terms of the application, changing the venue from New Plymouth to Christchurch, the trial to take place not later than the sth J une next. Ordered accordingly.— Neu) Zealand Herald.
