POVERTY BAY HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee was held last night. Present —Ven. Archdeacon Williams (in the chair,) Brown, Dr Pollen, Chrisp, McKay and Adairi Resolved that an application be made to the Colonial Secretary for the gazetting of the lease of the Carnarvon Street section, and three acres of the Aberdeen Road reserve, the former for the full term of 14 years, and the latter for a lesser period. It was also carried on the motion of Mr Brown, seconded by Captain Chrisp, that a notice of re-entry be served on Mr McDowell for that portion held by him on terms, the reason assigned being that he had failed to carry out his agreement with the Committee.—Captain Chrisp reported that Mr Bull would undertake to plant along the frontage line a box-thorn fence, and plant out trees for the sum voted by the Committee. Authority to proceed with the work was given.—Mr Brown, Treasurer, reported that in consequence of the grant, of £lOO from the County Council not having been received by the 31st March, he was uhable to include it in the returns for the quarter on which they received the Government subsidy. For this reason he had also to postpone the acceptance of the tender, but as he was now assured that the cheque would be paid at the next meeting of the Council, the contract was signed that day, and the work would at once proceed The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £B5 Is Bd, out of which accounts amounting to £67 9s 4d were to be provided for that night. He stated that he had during the month canvassed for the annual subscriptions in town, and had been very successful as far as he had gone. There was, however, a great falling off in the country subscriptions, and no one Could be found to take an interest in the matter. The annual subscriptions, which formerly used to come in from the stations, have almost altogether stopped. He would advise that some of the Committee should undertake to collect in the town, and someone should be appointed for the same purpose to proceed to the country. Captain Chrisp and Mr McKay were tobl off for the town, and Mr E. Chrisp, Wardsnmn, was instructed to collect country subscriptions. It was urged that as it would be impossible to hold the annual Gift Auction, it was imperatively necessary to obtain funds in this manner.—The Wardsmau reported that 4 patients had been admitted ; 7 discharged ; nt present remaining, 2. The cash received for fees amounted to £3 ss. A requisition was made for a ladder and sundry articles of household furniture. Mr Adair's offer of the loan of a ladder until one was procured was accepted with thanks.—The Committee for the ensuing month are Messrs Chrisp, Johnston, and McKay.—Accounts amounting to £67 9s 4d were passed.
