Mr. R. Hill Fisher, Agent for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports the receipt of the following cablegram from London, under date Ist instu “ Wool sales closed on 31st ult., at an average of 5 per cent, on last sales’ closing rates. The principal advance has been in superior greasy and superior combing washed. 18,000 bales held over for future disposal, and 155,000 bales taken for export; total quantity sold during past sales is 255,000 bales.” LONDON SEED TRADE. Messrs. John Shaw & Sons, of 37 Mark Lane, London, E.C., report through their agent, Mr Leonard W. Blbke, of Christchurch, that the market during the fortnight ending 10th February, exhibited increasing firmness all round, and in some cases an advance was established : a fair amount of business was passing in all field seeds. Cable advices from America report red clover advancing. English cow grass, choice samples were exceedingly scarce, and consequently held for extreme rates. White clover of medium quality had advanced 2/ per cwt., fine samples very firm. There had been a slight advance in alsyko and trefoil, supplies being scanty. Rye grasses continued to move upwards. Hemp very scarce and consequently dearer. Canary slow and unchanged in value.
