♦ The prices realized for shares in the Southern Cross and South Pacific Companies at the sale held on Tuesday last by Messrs Carlaw Smith and Co., were fairly satisfactory. One hundred -of the former were sold at 2/3 each, 300 at 2/4, and I<X> at 2/4L| ; 450 South Pacifies fetched 3/8, and 200 3/7. The attajjdanee was very large. * CUSTOMS DUTIES. The following is a statement showing the amount of Customs duties collected at the port of Poverty Bay, for the month ending 31st March, 1881: —

Auckland. —Sales limited at late quotations, the season having virtually closed some time since. NAPIEB.--Only a very small business done during the month at prices previously ruling. SHEEPSKINS. Napieb.—Market flat, and comparatively a email business. A large line of pelts has been taken up by a Southern buver on terms withheld. HIDES. Auckland.—Remarks in our last report •■apply to present state of market. Napier.—Prices range from 3d to 4|d per lb., according to weight and quality. Gisborne.—Local transactions indicate a weak market, 3id being nominal quotation. TALLOW AND FAT. Auckland. —Supplies all absorbed by local bodies at ISs to 24a per cwt. Napier.—£29 10s has been paid for a lot of medium quality. Well rendered tallow is held for £32. GRAIN. Auckland. —Wheat : Prices remain at about 4s 6d to 4s 8d ; buyers are not anxious to operate, believing present prices will not hold. Oats: Good feed selling at 2s 6d to 3s. GRASS SEED. Auckland. —A fair business is being done. Good clean rye is worth 5s 6d, and cocksfoot about 7s per bushel. Gisborne —Considerable activity has characterised this market during the month, sales being effected at 5s 6d f.0.b., for good rye seed, and 5s 3d for medium qualities. Several parcels are held for an advance on these prices.
