THAT NICE CONTENTED MAN.
The Cromwell Argus gives the following ♦ffusioll : He was a man uf moral worth above his sinful kind. A washing day was joy to him, and two he did not mind. The butcher's hill he rend with glee, the bakers made him smil.*. ■Cats in the garden made him laugh, as they did time beguile. He eared riot when the servant maid fell down wit •• nil t >e things. And fnndA a s.i-asli. 'twas but the ills that matrimony brines. If toothache bothered him, he jok 'd ; if corns adorned his ten's. Quoth-he, “ It might be something worse, tieuraltfia. wh*> knows r ’ And thus he went down the vale of life so pleasantly. As though to live and pay long bills were one eternal spree. Quotji he, •* My joys are far too much, for one so full of sins.” But- next day came a change in luck—a lively pair of twins. And now the one doth squall by night, the nt her yells all dav. But ’♦ill t 1 at modern Job goes on, and smiles his wees away. Quoth he, “ It might be even worse, at least it seems to me, For ’stead of twins it might h.ve been, not two, but mayhap three.”
