CRICKET MATCH.

HAWKE’S BAY V. POVERTY BAY. The above match commenced yesterday at the Ilapera Cricket Ground, kindly lent for the occasion by W. L. Rees, Esq. Play commenced at 1 p.m. The Gisborne team was Captained by Mr W. L. Rees, and the Hawke’s Bay team by Mr Gilberd. The day proved all that could be desired. Towards evening a refreshing shower came on, but it did not interfere with the game, play for the day having finished. During the day a number of people visited the ground, and a good deal of interest was taken in the match. Piay on both sides was very good, especially the fielding, as the small scores will testify ; but. the Hawke’s Bay team proved too strong in the bowling for our men. The slumps were drawn at half-past five, and the game will be resumed at 12 o’clock to-day. A scratch match will take place during the afternoon.
