PERILOUS VOYAGE OF A BARQUE FROM SYDNEY TO MELBOURNE.

The barque Rose M., from Humboldt Bay, experienced a very unpleasant and perilous voyage between Sydney and Melbourne. The barque arrived at Sydney -on the 21st ultimo, and sailed again on the same date for Melbourne. She had ordinary weather until the 26th, when the wind blew a hurricane from the westward, splitting the foresail, the lower foretopsail, and mainsail. A tremendous sea broke over the vessel, which appeared to be settling down, consequently the deck load of timber was thrown overboard. All hands were at the pumps to prevent the water, which was coming in rapidly from the hold, from gaining. The gale continued the following day, and the seas appeared to do as they liked with the barque, the crew having to seek shelter aft in the cabin. The vessel experienced bad weather, and was almost in momentary peril of sinking, until the snd January, when the captain bore up for Twofold Bay for shelter and repairs. The voyage was resumed on the sth. The wind again blew a stiff gale, and the jib and the mizzen staysail were split. A tremendous sea, which caught the barque amidships, lifted the mainsail, and started the crossbeam on the poop deck, and did other damage. Resort was again had to pumping. Temporary repairs were made, and, after further battling with the weather, the barque reached port, much to the relief of the crew.
