News was received in Gisborne last week that Thomas Floyd, the hangman of Kereopa, the Maori murderer, had been drowned in the Mohaka River. The deceased was for a long time working in this district, for Mr Alex. Robb at Matawhero, and Mr Malcolm McLeod on the Kaiti metal contract.

A great crowd being gathered about a poor cobbler who had j ust died in the street, a man asked Alex. Stevens what was to be seen. “ Oh,” replied he, “ only a cobbler's end.”
