RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, GISBORNE.
Monday, 30th Januaby, 1882. [Before If. Price, Esq., K.M.] William Jackson was charged with being drunk and incapable in Gladstone Hoad Gisborne, on Saturday last. Fined 10s and costs of Court 2s, in default 21 hours imprisonment. ANOTHER DRUNK. Michael Walsh surrendered to his bail to answer to the charge of being drunk aud creating a breach of the peace. Mr Brassey appeared for the accused, and pleaded not guilty. Sergt. Donnelly deposed that he saw the accused in Childers-street, making a kick at a woman. There was no doubt the accused was drunk. The woman struck did not complain. Mrs Walters complained that the accused had assaulted her also. Constable Wilson bore corroborative testimony. There were some women present when the “ row ” took place. The accused did not complain at the time of having been struck on the head with a piece of wood. Andrew Parkes deposed that there was a general row, and that Mrs Walsh and Mrs Walters came out together, and took part in it. Evidence was adduced that ths accused was a sober and respectable man. Fined 40s. and 7s. costs. The case of drunkenness was withdrawn.
