London, Jan. 21, Tn consequence of the increased agitation which recently appeared in certain parts of Ireland, an additional battalion of the Grenadier Guards have been ordered to proceed there at an early date. January 25. A serious railway collision occurred to-day near Hornsey, resulting in tho death of two passengers and serious injuries to 20 others. Owing to the necessity for further reinforcements in Ireland, a battalion of the sth Regiment has been hastily ordered to Dublin and will proceed without delay. Melbourne, Jan. 25. The P. and 0. Company’s steamship Mirzapore arrived here this morning and has been quarantined on account of two cases of smallpox which occurred on board during tho voyage. January 26. Another case of sickness occurred on the P. and O. steamship Mirzapore. The disease is suspected to be smallpox, but the doctors are unable to pronounce definitely until it is further developed. The Mirzapore pascengers have been landed to-day, at the quarantine station. This includes all who are now ill or sickening. January 27. A proprietor of a totalisator and 19 others were arrested yesterday on the Geelong Racecourse for using an illegal instrument of gaming. The race for the Geelong Cup was run to-day, and resulted as follows :— Guinea 1 Wren 2 Commotion ... ... 3 Time, 3 min. 36 secs.
