A fete champetre in aid of the funds of Holy Trinity Church, will shortly take place at the Hapara, Mr AV. L. Rees having kindly consented to place his grounds, for the occasion, at the disposal of the Vestry. A meeting was held on Monday afternoon, at the Parsonage; many of the ladies of the congregation interested in the movement, being present. From the cordial manner they have set about the work, the fete cannot prove otherwise than an unqualified success. The ladies and gentlemen in the country have taken up the matter very heartily. An influential Committee has been appointed to work in conjunction with the members of the Vestry. It will be remembered that on two occasion.--, the efforts made to supplement the funds of the Church by the aid of soirees, did not meet with that response from the public that perhaps they deserved. Upon this occasion there shall be nothing wanting on the part of the promoters to carry out the programme of the proposed fete with the greatest eclat. No doubt the local Volunteer Corps will turn out, and the J Battery Band will be in attendance. In the evening there will a pyrotechnic display, the necessary “ munitions of war,” in the shape of some fireworks having been ordered from Auckland. As we are writing, negotiations are in the course of progress wi th the local Jehus for conveying the public to and from the grounds. With Sam Stevenson’s break and landau, and Samuel Mason AVilson’s five-horse team, and taking into consideration the laudable object of the fete, we hope our gallant coachmen won’t drive too hard a bargain with the energetic members of the Hapara Eete Committee.
