An Ohio girl sued a man for breach of promise, and proved him such a mean scoundrel that the jury decided that he ought to pay her something for not marrying her. A promising youth recently surprised his mother by asking, ‘ Father do you like mother ?’ Why, yes, of course.’ ‘And she likes you ?’ ‘Of course she does.’ ‘ Did she ever say so ?’ ‘ Many a time my son., ‘ Did she marry you because she loved you?’ * Certainly she did.’ The boy carefully scrutinised his parent, and after along pause, asked, ‘ Well was she as nearsighted as she is now ?’
