We learn that the Court fixed to be held at Awanni, has, through Captain Preece being unavoidably detained in Napier, been postponed until the 2nd February. Air L. Stevens, baker at Patutahi, announces that he will be prepared to carry parcels, letters, and general goods to and from town, at moderate charges. The adjourned preliminary meeting for the purpose of arranging a programme for the Kaiteratahi Races takes place this evening, at the Kaiteratahi Hotel, at 8 o’clock. We arc requested to correct an error which appears in the U.S.S. Company’s shipping advertisement. The Southern Cross will sail on the 25th of January, and not on the 26th, as advertised. Alessrs Bourke, Smith & Co., notify that the sale of Henare Potae’s interests in a number of blocks of land, &c., to take place to-day, has been postponed until Tuesday next, the 24th inst. The usual horse sale will take place at 2 o’clock to-dav.

We draw the attention of Airs Bach’s pupils, that that lady will be prepared to meet them at her residence, on Alonday next and after. A meeting will take place at 2:30 to-day, at the Masonic Hotel, to consider the best steps to be taken in regard to legislature for removing the difficulties surrounding the land titles of this district. The Directors of the Southern Cross Petroleum Company have decided to accept Air J. R. Davies’ tender for sinking a shaft at the Company’s Ground, Rotokautuku—7oo feet at the rate of £3 10s. per foot, the contractor to find all material except the curbs. A notice was received on Wednesday afternoon last, by the Secretary of the Poverty Bay Turf Club, from Alt Philip Murtagh, stating that his horse Angler has been scratched for all his engagements at the forthcoming meeting. Stubbs to the Southern Cross Petroleum Company relative to the value of the paraffin mineral sent over to Melbourne for a commercial experiment, shows that its estimated value is £l5 per ton for the crude or natural mineral, and t hat the kerosene resulting from the distillation is much finer than American samples. We would remind our subscribers that our quarter terminates to-day, and we would be glad to receive overdue subscriptions from them. We trust that this intimation to our numerous readers will suffice. A writ for an action fer libel, claiming £2OOO damages, was served upon Air S. P. Craig yesternoon, at. the suit of Air Al. J. Gannon. The plaintiff in the action was one of the candidates in the late election ; the defendant is the proprietor of the Poverty Bag Herald. The ground of action is for an alleged defamatory statement against the plaintiff, published in defendant’s paper during the time of the late conaest. The trial will come off in Wellington shortly. We beg to draw attention to Mr G .R. Moore’s great cash sale of drapery and clothing. The stock is an extensive one and well assorted in ail departments. Air Moore, it will be remembered lately purchased the stock and trade of Leonard and Co., where he has carried on business for some time past in Gladstone-road. Air Aloore has just returned from Auckland with an entirely new stock of drapery goods and clothing of the best, quality and for sale at prices consider ably reduced. We would direct the attention of our local wool-growers to the Annual Ram Fair to be held at Hastings, Hawke's Bay, on the 25th instant. From an advertisement in another column it will be seen Air Al. R. Miller will sell some excellent Lincoln stock from the most noted breeders of Hawke’s Bay. Pure Merino rams from the flocks of Alessrs Douglas, McLean, Royse and Anderson, Aleinertzhagen and Aloore, and other wellknown breeders of sheep, will be sold by auction. Intending vendors are invited to forward particulars of stud stock intended fur sale as early as possible.
